Saving water ..we've got a good start indoors, now
let's add focus to our irrigation systems. Last year LTCWD
began its pioneering effort to provide a broad range of rebates for appliances
and irrigation system revamping. We've just added two more items to the
list to help you improve your household water use with equal or better
performance. See the Saving Water page
for full details of ALL the rebates available and a video (courtesy of East Bay Municipal Utility District) on how you can change your own toilet
flapper valve, the most common source of leaks in the home.

Water Movement Control Initiative (WMCI) The overarching goal of the WMCI is to help ensure
water movement-related public safety and health, and environmental quality
within the District through the mapping of key surface and subsurface water
movement patterns; identification of major control problems within those
patterns and their consequent deleterious effects; formulation of appropriate
short and long-term mitigation strategies; and collaboration with residents and
other agencies to cost effectively implement those strategies.
Please see the link at left for more information about the initiative.

District Lands: New Trailhead, Viewing area, restorations
Contractors and LTCWD volunteers recently completed work on a new trail head for Old Spanish Trail (the hiking trail) and a viewing area "inside the fence" of the District's Lake at the corner of Old Spanish Trail (the road) and Lake Road. Image. A road side strip of parking area near the "red shed" has also been improved.

Fire Safety Initiative Launched
This fall the District is launching a new initiative in fire safety. The effort will focus on two areas: 1) Assuring that roads are kept passable during a brush fire. This will prevent evacuees from being trapped while allowing emergency vehicles to enter. 2) Fuel load reduction in the community. Four new incentives are now available. Details are available at fire safety.
